Dedham Square Circle, is seeking a part time Assistant Farmers Market Manager to run the weekly Dedham Farmers Market in September and October and train for the position in August. The Assistant Farmers Market Manager will be the on-site contact at a market in September and October. For each market, they lead set-up/ tear-down and act at the point person during the market. Examples of some vendors include farms, bakeries, meat and seafood providers, crafters and specialty food producers.
The Assistant Farmers Market Manager works closely with the Farmers Market Manager & Planner and maintains positive relationships with vendors, community partners, neighboring businesses and shoppers in a safe and vibrant gathering place where vendors can prosper. This person must be comfortable working in a team environment with staff members and volunteers, identify potential problems, provide feedback and offer creative solutions. They are responsible for enforcing policies and assuring smooth and safe operations of the market. This is a physical, public facing, outdoor job and requires the ability to lift equipment weighing up to 50 lbs., step up and down out of a truck, set up canopies, carry large boxes and provide support in emergencies. Working conditions include but are not limited to rain, heat, freezing temperatures and wind.
Farmers Market Manager Responsibilities:
Logistics
• Ensure all necessary equipment/supplies are transported to market and are in good working order
• Ensure complete market set-up/tear-down; includes assuring safety, accessibility and trash removal
• Accurately convey vendor attendance and market logistics to the Market Manager & Planner
• Direct safe traffic of vehicles operating on and around market site
• Offer first responder/first aid service as needed
Vendor Relations
• Maintain supportive relationships with vendors
• Troubleshoot, solve problems and resolve conflicts as presented
• Keep Market Manager & Planner updated on problems, conflicts, booth location concerns and attendance issues
• Communicate vendor logistical and market attendance with Market Manager & Planner
Sales, Data Tracking & Reporting
• Track and record vendor attendance, shoppers counts
• Track merchandise sales
• Educate shoppers about methods of payment accepted at the market
• Assist SNAP and HIP customers and educate vendors about SNAP and HIP rules and redemption
Farmers Market Manager Requirements:
• Experience with farmers markets other related work preferred
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and to repetitively lift 50 lbs.
• Access to personal vehicle or car share and valid driver's license
• Excellent communication skills and experience leading and working in a team environment
• Ability to understand rules and comfort holding others accountable
• Access to a computer, and must have a working cell phone and ability to text
• Passion for local food and farms; knowledge of community food systems a plus

Servers should have a few years of experience in a like-minded restaurant, be passionate about food and beverage and be able to work quickly & calmly while still maintaining a high level of service. A love for hospitality and a desire to learn about local food are a must. Ideal candidates work well in a team environment and are excited to discover new seasonal menu items and craft cocktails in a fast-paced and fun/positive atmosphere.
Experience is always preferred, but we are willing to train motivated individuals with a passion for local produce and wine and who possess a strong work ethic.

Please note: Pick one date or as many as you want! Market setup and breakdown involves some heavy lifting, setting up tables, chairs, equipment, etc. Volunteers should dress for the weather.

As the sun starts to set, the Square will shut down vehicular traffic and High Street will open to strolling, live bands, art, food, outdoor dining, activities, shopping Square businesses and street vendors. This event runs from 6-10pm.
Volunteers are needed for 1 hour slots to help with set up, run activities and clean up.
