Welcome Back, Scoop Fans!

Feel Good Shopping! Mark your calendars folks, on Tuesday, March 1, from 8 a.m. – 10 p.m., Whole Foods Market Dedham will host a “5% Day” in which five percent of the store’s net sales for that day will be donated to the Dedham Square Circle to support our continued revitalization efforts in the Square! How cool is that?! It’s a great excuse to stock up on your favorites. The more you spend – the more we earn! Stop by DSC’s table at the front of the store that day as we’ll be joined by Deli After Dark and Kouzina who will sample some of their most popular menu items. You might even win a gift certificate to a Dedham Square business!

Square Jam - The Square was jammin’ last weekend as crowds flocked to Dedham Community Theatre to catch “The King’s Speech” and new film “Another Year”.  There wasn’t a seat to be had in any of the Square eateries! One of our roving Scoop reporters who was out and about in the Square Saturday night tells us she met lots of people in who were visiting from other towns throughout the region. It seems the word is out that the Square is a destination filled with fascination!

Good Deed – Earlier this week Mocha Java’s Linton Levy was spotted in the Keystone Lot helping to clear snow off a car belonging to an elderly Dedham Square resident. It’s not just the places that make the Square special, it’s the people. Hats off to Linton!

Cure for Cabin Fever - Escape the winter doldrums at the Dedham Community House Mardi Gras Masquerade Party, Friday, March 4, at 7 p.m. The forecast calls for fun with masks, beads, Creole cuisine provided by Whole Foods Market, cash bar, silent auction and more! Tickets are $40 per person in advance. Hurry – tickets are going quickly! Visit  www.dedhamcommunityhouse.org for more info.

Speaking of Winter Escapes… - Looking to leave the New England winter behind? Stop in to see Terry at Dedham Travel, she’ll help you pick out the perfect tropical destination! Chances are, if there’s a place you want to go – Terry’s been there. Imagine all the places she’s been in her 34 years as a travel agent!

Table Trivia - Head to Courtside Café for some home-style favorites and brush up on your presidential trivia, too. Their paper placemats feature factoids on all 44 presidents. Impress your friends with your nimble knowledge of the occupants of the Oval Office, just in time for President’s Day!

A Must See - The Dedham Community Theatre will show the documentary “Race to Nowhere” on Saturday, Feb. 26,  and Sunday, Feb. 27 at 9:30 a.m. This film is generating a lot of buzz throughout the country from parents and teachers alike as it focuses on how the high-stakes, high-pressure culture affects our children’s lives. Tickets are $5 and are on sale at the theatre box-office.

Opening Day! - In just mere 12 days, Ron’s Ice Cream will reopen for the season! It’s a sure sign that spring is just around the corner! Yippee!

Wing It - Deli After Dark is offering 25 cent wings (dine-in only) from 4-7 on Saturdays. As if you needed another excuse to go to DAD this weekend!

Good Cause - Noble and Greenough is hosting an “Empty Bowls” fundraiser at the school to benefit the Dedham Food Pantry on Saturday, Feb. 26, from 1-4 p.m. in the castle at 10 Campus Drive, Dedham. For a suggested donation of $10 guests will enjoy a bowl of soup and can take home a handmade bowl made by ceramics program students.

Did you know? - You can order a “heart healthy” dish at Isabella and get a totally diet friendly meal? An easy way to skip the guilt when ordering dessert!

This Old House - Does your house have a history? If you’ve moved into an old house in Dedham the  Dedham Historical Society may have information about your house or its previous owners. Contact DHS to learn more at 781-326-1385 or society@dedhamhistorical.org

Meal Deal!
- Have you checked out the kids meal specials at Salem Food Market? A crowd pleaser for even the pickiest of eaters. Only $3.99 – choice of cheeseburger, grilled cheese and chicken fingers or ziti with meatballs! Salad can be substituted for fries. 50 cent Hoodsie cups to boot!

Winter Warmth
- It may be freezing outside but the Square’s nonprofit gift shop is glowing inside! The dedicated volunteers at The Dedham Exchange have been busy behind-the-scenes installing a new inventory system. Stop in soon to check out their beautiful unique handmade and commercial items.  Located at 445 Washington St. with plenty of FREE parking!

Music Notes
- The Dedham School of Music will offer summer programs including a 3-week band program on weekday mornings as well as Intro to Piano and private instrument lessons. For more information call 781-441-9372.

Dedham Square Trivia – Answer a fun trivia question or solve a riddle about our historic downtown, get it right and you’ll be entered into our quarterly drawing to win a gift certificate to a Square merchant! The answer to our last Trivia Question: It was five episodes of the popular show “The People’s Court” that were  filmed in the Norfolk County courthouse in 1989. Congratulations to Marcia Cardinale, Lucille Carnivale, Michael Columbo, Edith Araby, Janet Galvin, Kristina Krug, Nancy McCormick and Jeannie McLeish, who all answered correctly!

This week’s question: What building in the Square has a picture of a Native-American etched into its façade? Submit your answers by Friday, Feb. 25, to dedhamsquarecircle@gmail.com or to our P.O. Box listed below.
