The warm weather is finally here (hooray!) and there is no shortage of things to do in Dedham Square and around town. Head to the Square to get a scoop at Ron’s Ice Cream, catch one of the new flicks at the theatre, grab a bite at one of the eateries, do some shopping, and catch some live music. Read on!
Flag Day Fun – Dedham’s Annual Flag Day parade kicks off in Dedham Square at 6 p.m. on Tues., June 14th. Marching bands, dancers, clowns, elected officials, fire trucks and police cars, decorative floats and the Cycling Murrays! It’s an annual tradition – don’t miss it! Opening Day - Excitement is brewing for the opening of the 4th season of the Dedham Farmers Market on June 15th! Featuring six Bay State farms, a local greenhouse, ten specialty food vendors, Jack & Eric’s famous Pirate Lemonade, educational and cultural activities, entertainment and then some! Joining us on opening day will be the New England Wildflower Society which will share info. on native plants and the role they play in maintaining a vibrant, healthy ecosystem. They’ll bring sample plants, info. and materials that will help you identify invasive species in your back-yard and how to replace them with native cultivars. Nikki McClure, artist and illustrator of “To Market, To Market”, a book about a mother and son’s visit to a weekly farmers market, will join us from 3-6 p.m. with copies of her book for sale.
Change in Store – The awning above Star Nails has been removed with the rest of the building’s awnings to follow suit. Replacing them will be brand new beautiful awnings and signage for all seven tenants of the Locatelli Properties building. This project is part of the Dedham Square Circle’s Sign and Façade Improvement Program, which offers assistance to merchants and commercial property owners looking to make physical improvements to their storefronts and facades.
Square Jam – Head over to the Dedham Community House on Sat., June 11th for a day chock full of fun at the 4th Annual Dedham Square Music & Arts Festival. The day will start out with a performance from the band students from the Dedham Public Schools and the Dedham School of Music, followed by MusicFest fave Sarah Blacker. Local bands Dirty Strange, Love in Stockholm, Adam Ezra Group, Will Dailey & The Rivals will perform consecutively leading up to the headline performance by Entrain. In between sets you can check out the artists’ tent and the activities for kids. Bring blankets and chairs and make a day of it. The best part? It’s all FREE! Book Nook - The Friends of the Dedham Public Library are hosting a book sale to raise funds for the DPL’s children's Room and Museum Pass programs. You’ll find hardcovers and paperbacks for all ages, large print, audio books, videos, DVDs and cds. Mon. June 13 from 5-8 p.m. at the Main Library on Church St. Half-price sale is on Tues.
