Whole Foods Market Dedham selects Dedham Farmers Market as 5% Day Recipient for promotion on Thursday, June 22, 2017
Whole Foods Market Dedham is pleased to announce that it has selected the Dedham Farmers Market as the beneficiary of its 5% Day. Four times each year, Whole Foods Market donates 5% of the day’s net sales to a selected local organization, and on Thursday, June 22, the Dedham Farmers Market (DFM) will be the featured organization. Volunteers and the market manager of the Dedham Farmers Market will staff an information table inside the store throughout the day during its hours of operation from 8 am until 10 pm. Dedham Farmers Market will use this contribution to help fund its Dedham Dollars program, providing matching funds to SNAP recipients who come to the weekly farmers market. According to Dedham Square Circle Executive Director, Amy Haelsen, whose organization founded and manages DFM, this is the seventh year Whole Foods Market has sponsored the Dedham Farmers Market. "Whole Foods Market’s support has allowed us to continue our Dedham Dollars program as well as help us grow our market into the popular and bustling community gathering place it is today," said Haelsen. "Whole Foods embodies what it means to be a good corporate neighbor. Their generosity to the Dedham community has been extraordinary and we are so grateful for their continued support."
About Dedham Farmers Market
The DFM was founded in 2008 by two volunteers of the Dedham Square Circle who wished to start a community market to sell locally grown produce from Massachusetts' farms. Dedham Square Circle, a non-profit organization whose mission is to make Dedham's historic downtown more vibrant and economically strong, continues to manage the market. It began with just seven vendors and the market was held in a parking lot in Dedham Square. In 2012, DFM moved to the green at First Church of Dedham, surrounded by several historic buildings and offers ample shade, grass, cafe tables, and free parking for its patrons. Now in its tenth season, the market features four local farms selling produce, eggs, grass-fed meats, and fresh cut flowers as well as several local specialty food vendors which sell baked goods (including vegan and gluten-free), fresh seafood, jams and preserves, honey, granola, organic dog treats, natural health and wellness products, award-winning wines, and more. This year local artists and crafters will also be selling their hand crafted items. The Dedham Farmers Market runs every Wednesday, rain or shine, from 3-7 pm through October 25.
