Whole Foods Market Names Dedham Farmers Market Beneficiary of 5% Day
(April 1, 2013) – Customers who shop at Whole Food Market Dedham on Tuesday, April 9 from 8 am - 10 pm will have the opportunity to help raise funds for the Dedham Farmers Market (DFM). The Dedham store, located at 300 Legacy Place, Dedham MA, will host a “5% Day” in which five percent of the store’s net sales for that day will be donated to the seasonal community market which runs from June through October.
“This is a terrific opportunity for us to let more people know about the Dedham Farmers Market and to raise funds needed to continue to support its operations,” said Amy Haelsen, Executive Director of the Dedham Square Circle which founded the market in 2008. “As both our market and Whole Foods Market promote healthy eating and support of local farmers, it is a wonderful partnership,” said Haelsen. She added that funds raised on the 5% Day will also help support the DFM ‘s matching Dedham Dollars program for SNAP recipients in which every SNAP dollar is matched up to a cap of $10 per person per week. This program is now in its fourth year at the DFM.
Since opening in 2009, Whole Foods Market Dedham has been a sponsor of the Dedham Farmers Market and other Dedham Square events. “We are so appreciative of Whole Foods Market’s continued generous support of our efforts,” said Haelsen. “They are a terrific example of what it means to be a good corporate citizen, to give back to the community in which you operate.”
“Since opening our store in Dedham, Dedham Square Circle and the Dedham Farmers Market have been amazing community partners” says Kyle Marnane, Marketing Team Leader for Whole Foods Market. Marnane added, “Overall, our community giving well exceeds 5% of our total net profits each year, and 5% days are a great way to highlight and support vital nonprofits in our local communities.” Whether customers purchase their morning coffee & muffin, or stock on on a favorite bottle of wine, every cent counts.
