Interview with Frank M. Walley III
How did you end up in this line of work?
My grandfather, Frank Walley, started the company in East Dedham back in 1922, and my dad, Frank Walley Jr., joined him in the business on High Street in 1955. So, it was pretty natural that I would follow in their footsteps!
What you most like and least like about your work?
I love the variety of the work I do- we insure all kinds of customers- individuals and companies- and so I get to work with some really interesting insurance exposures. Some weeks can get very busy, though, so I don’t get to chat to our customers as much as I’d like- that gets in the way of the fun!
What makes your business unique?
I think the personal interaction we have with our customers sets us apart. We are now serving our third and fourth generations of customers- it always amazes me when a customer tells me that his grandfather bought his house from my grandfather and the family has had their insurance here ever since. It’s great to know that we’ve been part of their families for so long!
What's a typical day like for you?
Well, I’m never here early- almost no one wants a call from their insurance guy at 9 a.m. But, you can often find me at my desk at 6pm getting caught up on the paperwork from the day. As a broker, I’m on the phone a lot!
What do you like most about Dedham Square?
I love the convenience and the variety of shops! It’s great to do business with your friends and neighbors.
