How did you end up in this line of work?
After working in Washington D.C. for a time, I decided to return to Massachusetts and join my family’s business. The dedication and commitment to helping clients, being part of a community, and providing an invaluable service to their clients, is something I wanted to be part of, and carry on for my family. I enjoy the unique challenges of helping customers and growing a small business.
What do you most like and least like about your work?
I thoroughly enjoy the insurance business. Helping clients protect what they care about most. Each situation is unique and mandates creative insurance portfolio solutions. It is extremely satisfying to provide clients with a sense of value for their insurance needs, while confident that we have the proper protection in place.
Not that it is my least favorite aspect of the business, but probably one of the more difficult aspects of the business is when a client experiences a claim. We respond quickly, efficiently, compassionately, and with vigor. However, there are some situations that money alone cannot fix. Sometimes, a monetary payment cannot make up for the pain and frustration that a client is experiencing as a result of a claim, such as a lost family heirloom or a displaced family due to a catastrophic loss. These are the situations that can be very difficult though also rewarding to be able to assist a client in these situations.
What makes your business unique?
Trust. It is one of the intangible products that we as insurance agents sell. Clients come to me on a regular basis to protect what is important to them. I initiate conversations about their homes, automobiles, businesses, family, and goals, to custom tailor unique solutions for each of them. Not every insurance policy is the same. Not every client has the same needs. It is very gratifying to prepare plans to ensure my clients rest easy by creating expected solutions for the unexpected situations that commonly arise.
I gain that trust from long term experience, commitment, dedication, wisdom, having consummate professional staff, viable relationships with various companies, and the confidence to be the very best in the industry.
What’s a typical day like for you?
What makes owning a small business so enjoyable is every day is different. Mostly, my days consist of meeting with my clients, staff, community and industry leaders, and working to grow my business. It is rewarding and I thrive when I am helping our clients and community, so I try to incorporate this into my daily work.
What do you like most about Dedham Square?
Community involvement and development are key focuses I have always maintained. Dedham Square has a strong and well established small business presence that is very appealing to my small business owner’s eye. The number of small businesses in Dedham Square makes you not only want to do business in the Square, but it always makes you want to do business with your neighbors. Whether it be going to see a movie at the Dedham Community Theatre or grabbing a pizza, the Square gives small businesses owners, like myself, an opportunity to succeed.
