Governor Patrick to stop at Dedham Farmers Market

As campaign season heats up, Governor Deval Patrick will make a stop in Dedham Square today, expected to visit the ever-popular Dedham Farmers Market at 5 p.m. before strolling a few blocks to the Dedham Community Theatre for a visit sponsored by its owner, state Representative Paul McMurtry, a Dedham Democrat.
While he's in town, Patrick will spend some time with the Dedham 9's summer baseball team, a dozen all-star players from Dedham Youth Baseball who narrowly lost the Eastern Massachusetts state finals last weekend, but are still moving on to the New England Regionals in August.
Patrick and McMurtry will give the team a state flag that they will display in the parade at that regional competition in Turners Falls, a village in Montague, Franklin County.
When they heard the governor was coming, coaches said they rescheduled a game so the boys could attend.
"It's awesome that they will be recognized and receive the flag,'' said Dan Maher, one of the team's assistant coaches.
Officials are hoping for a big crowd at the market, which runs every Wednesday from noon to 6 in a town lot at the corner of High Street and Eastern Avenue.
While he's in town, Patrick will issue a proclamation lauding Dedham on its civic engagement. At 5:30, he will attend a fund-raiser at the theatre with supporters and McMurtry.
Patrick's appearance was played up in the market's online newsletter, "The Weekly Harvest," along with purple basil, heirloom and cherry tomatoes, and a whittling demonstration.
"Please join us in offering him a warm welcome to Dedham,'' it said.
