Faces of the Square: Meet The Sontoulidis Family

Type :Faces of the Square

In the fall of 2007, Xeno Sountoulidis along with his parents Eleni and Niko, opened “Kouzina Estiatorio” in Dedham Square.  Natives of Greece, the Sountoulidis family came to the U.S. in  1976 and settled in West Roxbury.  After running a deli in Back Bay followed by a pizza shop in Hyde Park for nearly 25 years, the family sought a different location to open an authentic Greek restaurant. “We moved to Dedham because it’s such an up and coming town,” Xeno shared, noting that the recent revitalization efforts in the Square are what caught their attention.

What differentiates their food from other Greek restaurants, Xeno explained, is that everything is made from scratch from family recipes. “It’s home-style Greek food,” he said. “What you’d find in anyone’s kitchen in Greece.”  Some of their most popular menu items include lamb kabobs, Mousaka, Gyros, Souvlaki, Locanico, and, of course, their melt in your mouth baklava. There’s even something for the kids - chicken fingers and cheeseburgers!   Last fall, the restaurant was featured in The Boston Globe food section, creating lots of well-deserved buzz.  Kouzina is open Tues-Fri. 11-9, Sat. 12-9 and Sun. 12-8 at 557 High Street.  They even deliver! 781.467.0090. Stop in to see the Sountoulidis family and sample for yourself. Tell them Scoop McSquare sent you!
