How did you end up in this line of work?
Years ago, when I was planning a cruise with a travel agent, I didn’t like the way I was treated by her. It was a bad experience. Right then I decided that I’d never treat anyone like that who was spending a lot of time and money on a vacation and so I decided to become a travel agent. Before that, I worked for Purity Supreme as a baker for 18 years.
What you most like and least like about your work?
What I like most is helping people fulfill their dreams by sending them on a memorable vacation. Making people happy makes me happy. The worst? Sending a client to a place I don’t recommend but they really want to visit.
What makes your business unique?
Dedham Travel sells vacations all over the world. I customize vacations and there’s nothing I can’t do when it comes to putting together a trip. I bring 33 years of personal travel experience to the table. By traveling to places and experiencing them firsthand, I can provide personal and detailed information to my clients. You won’t get that if you book a trip on the Internet. If you have an issue during your trip, you can contact me, a real person. I offer payment plans and a bridal registry in which the bride and groom book a trip with me, and people can give them gift certificates toward their honeymoon. It’s becoming more and more popular.
What are some of the places you’ve traveled to?
I’ve been to Australia, Tahiti and have traveled extensively throughout Europe. I have been to Mexico, the Caribbean islands, Bermuda, The Bahamas and all over the U.S. Also, I’ve been on over 80 cruises. I’ve been to more places than I can remember!
What are the most popular travel destinations these days?
This winter people were looking for an escape from the snow and cold, so I booked a lot of trips to tropical destinations, especially Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. I have also booked a lot of trips to Italy.
What do you like most about Dedham Square?
I really like how friendly and welcoming everyone is. There’s always something going on and it’s a safe place. I also like how Dedham Square Circle is always trying to improve the Square. They do a great job!
