A new sign at the intersection of Eastern Avenue and Providence Highway now marks the entrance into Historic Dedham Square. The large black sign with gold leaf lettering was a collaboration among the Dedham Square Circle, Dedham Civic Pride and the Town of Dedham, all of which played a role in bringing the project to fruition. The project was funded in large part through a grant from the Town's Economic Development Fund to cover design, construction, installation, lighting and landscaping. The sign is illuminated at night and the area surrounding the sign has been professionally landscaped.
“Making this gateway to Dedham Square more attractive has long been on the Dedham Square Circle's list of "101 Great Ideas to Improve the Square", said Amy Haelsen, Executive Director of Dedham Square Circle. "Our goal is to encourage people traveling along Providence Highway to stop in the Square and discover all that it has to offer," said Haelsen. “We have heard from people from out-of-town that Dedham Square is hard to find. We hope this big beautiful sign will help solve that problem.”
“Dedham Civic Pride’s mission to improve the overall aesthetic appearance of the community was once again accomplished with this project,” said Amy Black, Chairperson of Dedham Civic Pride. “Working and sharing resources with Dedham Square Circle and the town helps to strengthen our commitment to make Dedham the best town it can be.”
“This new sign serves as a ‘welcome’ to Dedham Square and the community and is a concrete step forward in our overall efforts to help market and brand Dedham to a wider customer base,” said Karen O’Connell, the Town’s Economic Development Director. “The Town is pleased to be partnering with both Dedham Square Circle and Dedham Civic Pride to promote our local business community in the Square. “
